    Default Weaning age

After reading this article: http://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-00223-7 it intrigues me as to what age you wean your calves at? The minimum age for us is about 12 weeks with a lot of calves being fed milk up to 15 weeks. We often have a bit of waste milk and see it as a by product not to waste further...

We wean typically at 12 weeks, sometimes sooner if I need the hutch space. 10 weeks is minimum.

Wean at 4-5 weeks here. Feed the heck out of calf feed til about 3 months. Its Very expensive to feed milk/ milkreplacer and time consuming.

Wean at 8 weeks. This is the first time I've heard of 10-12 weeks! But if you have the waste milk, use it.

About waste milk. We rarely have enough to feed the cats. This is on 150 cows.

That's usually all we have, collect the quart that drains from the line after milking

Same here . Minimum 12 weeks before weaning but no waste milk fed to calves anymore.

We weak anywhere from 8-9 weeks depending on how well they perform. 1.9 lbs total solids per day. 2.6 lb daily gain on the larger breeds, 1.3 on the jerseys. Had a groups of Holsteins just this week weigh in at 705 with an average age of 8.1 months. No they we not over conditioned.

What is your feeding strategy in the first 9 weeks ? Do you get 2,6 adg after 9 weeks as well ?
