Thread: Pneumonias

    Default Pneumonias

Been having a lot of pneumonia in cows this year way more than usual. The majority of the cows that are coming down with pneumonia are recently fresh cows under 30 DIM. Ventilation in the barn is good, cross vent barn. Sand bedding with alley scrapers. We clean all waters twice a week. Water is treated with peroxide. We give triangle 10 at dry off. Is there something I'm missing or could do to improve on?

You do way more than we do. We do vaccinate with Triangle 10 at dry off, like you. Our cows eat at a bunk outside. That's their only source of nutrition. I do think the fresh air cuts down on pneumonia. But this year we had a few cases of pneumonia, too. Our vet says he has seen lots more of it this year.

Fresh cows are always more prone to disease.

Has it been cooler or hotter this year than usual? Even in the barn?

We are using inforce 3 when moving cows into close up pen . Seems to work for us for bacterial pneumonia.

Can definitely happen. Especially when it gets really hot.
