Default Sophmore Slump...is it a "thing"?

Someone on Twitter mentioned his 2nd lactation animals had a "sophmore slump" in production and that he made some changes to his heifer raising to avoid this.

Has anybody else experienced this woth there animals? Just looking at my computer records and it seems i have a couple 2nd lactation animals that only give the same as the current 1st lactation animals.

Other way around for us: first lactation lower than second and third etc...

There will always be exceptions, but I'm going by year round large group averages
