    Default Rate for raising hfrs

Looking to get out of the milking end of the dairy business. Wondering what people are paying or charging to get hfrs raised.

In central wi we pay $2.50/head/day. There’s a few other growers around here charging the same rate.

Heifer raising is becoming a tough business if your new and large. It all comes down to having a certain number of head. Not sure where you are located but here in Wisconsin a lot of farms in the 1,000+ range are sending their animals to Kansas or Colorado. Those area are raising for about $2.25/day. It is hard to compete with that in the upper Midwest. We are currently paying $2.60/day which includes everything but semen and arm service. Our grower weighs the animals at regular intervals also.
