Default How many car tyres to cover silage plastic

Just a quick question here rather than taking a tape out to any of our silage pits and maybe a how long is a piece of string question, but thought someone may have worked out the numbers...

How many car tyres would you estimate are needed to cover 1 square meter (1m2)? Happy for other measurements as long as they are convertible to meters :P

Depends on tire size. My math gave 2.25 tires/sq. metre with a 24" diameter tire sidewall.

I always thought as long as the tires are touching one another it was all good .

I calculated approx. 3 tyres per m2 at 60cm diameters... it means I need to source 2,700 tyres in the next week for our maize silage.
In the end I’ve decided to give the gravel bags a run for their money and have ordered 700 of them. Someone is going to have fun filling them :P
